Mohawk College closes new off-campus housing after just over one year open

Mohawk College has closed the off-campus student housing it opened last year.
The Linden Hall residence in downtown Hamilton opened for the 2024-2025 academic year and housed an average occupancy of 52 students throughout the year.
This is despite the location’s capacity of 300 students.
In May, a month after the students moved out from the building for the summer the rest of the building was vacated as well.
Mohawk’s Director of Communications and Special Events, Sean Coffey says the decline of international students has “negatively impacted the occupancy rates” and is the reason it did not renew the lease on the building.
The property was rented by Mohawk College to be used as a residence, the building’s owner will decide the next steps for it.
