Man charged with second-degree murder in St. Catharines

Niagara police have charged a man with second-degree murder after a man suffered traumatic injuries and died as a result.

On Friday at around 11:50 a.m., officers responded to an address on Lakeshore Road in the City of St. Catharines for an assault call for service.

Investigators found a male victim with traumatic injuries, who was rushed to a local hospital, where he later died due to his injuries.

34-year-old Brandon Marzec of St. Catharines was located at a nearby home and was arrested and charged with second degree murder.

Officers say the suspect suffered an injury and was transported to hospital.

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and has invoked their mandate.

Marzec remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing on Saturday at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
