An 83-year-old woman has died after a crash involving two passenger vehicles on the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) near Trafalgar Road in Oakville.

On Friday at around 10:10 p.m., officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a sedan travelling Toronto-bound in the Fort Erie-bound lanes of the QEW.

Shortly after, police received reports that the vehicle had collided with another sedan.

Investigators say the drivers of both vehicles were initially transported to hospital with injuries believed to be minor.

However, the injuries sustained by the driver of the wrong-way vehicle, an 83-year-old woman from Hanover, Ont. were later determined to be life-threatening. She died due to her injuries.

The QEW was closed for the investigation and the removal of the involved vehicles but has since reopened.
