Look Good Feel Better

Many women undergoing cancer treatment experience drastic changes to their appearance, and a Canada-wide program is helping them cope. The program is called “Look Good Feel Better”. For many women with cancer, there’s a deep connection between how they look and how they feel. The goal for this program is to maximize both.
The free program teaches women undergoing cancer treatment how to cope with changes to their appearance. Team leader, Chris Piuni, shares advice on moisturizing and sun protection. Skin becomes much dryer and prone to sun damage during chemo and radiation.
Women also learn how to match makeup to their changing skin tone and pencil in eyebrows to replace the ones that may be thinning or falling out. Piuni also shows the women how to choose and care for a wig and/or use head wraps and hats.
Piuni says that the women go out determined to look better tomorrow and to this for themselves. And they realise they have control over something. There’s also a connection between how patients feel and how they recover. These women leave the workshop with a new found determination to look and feel their best.
