UPDATE:
Shocking details in the terror investigation of ISIS sympathizer Aaron Driver – the man who died after police surrounded a home in a small town just outside of London. The RCMP say an FBI tip early yesterday alerted them to the “imminent threat” posed by Driver. That tip included a video.
Police only say Driver was planning to detonate a homemade explosive device in an urban centre during morning or afternoon rush hour, but we do know Pearson International Airport, the TTC and Go Transit were all warned of a credible security threat
There are a number of locations playing a role in this investigation – London is one of them, but the focus is in the small town of Strathroy.
At around 4:30 yesterday afternoon police confronted 25 year old Aaron Driver and the confrontation was explosive. The RCMP Tactical team approached Driver as he left his Park Street home Wednesday afternoon at 4:30.
He got into a cab and then detonated an explosive device he was either wearing, or had in his backpack. The cab was destined for City Plaza in London.
Officers shot Driver after the explosion, but don’t know what killed him.
A 47 year old cab driver was injured in the blast that shook this small southwestern Ontario community.
Aaron Driver lived at 212 Park Street with his sister. Area residents are angry that someone on a terrorists watch list was in their community.
Police had a large area around the house blocked off throughout the day, and even brought in a bomb disposal robot late this afternoon.
Even though there was a news conference in Ottawa people here in Strathroy are feeling in the dark.
