Impaired driver charged after cyclist struck by vehicle in NOTL

One driver has been charged after a cyclist was struck and seriously injured by an SUV in Niagara-on-the-Lake Sunday evening.
Niagara police were called to the area of Lakeshore Road and Townline Road for reports of a cyclist having been hit by a vehicle.
Upon arrival they found the victim, a 40-year-old man, being treated by paramedics for serious injuries before he was taken to an out-of-region hospital for further care.
Initial investigation has determined a 1999 black jeep was driving on Townline Road when it suddenly collided with a cyclist at the intersection of Lakeshore Road.
When the cyclist fell to the road, the driver continued along Lakeshore Road before returning and then once again leaving the area.

While an investigation into the collision was being conducted, the driver returned on foot and was arrested on the grounds that officers believed them to be intoxicated.
Amanda Boyle, 50, of St. Catharines has been arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
Boyle has been released on a Form 10 Undertaking with a future court date. The accused has additionally had her license suspended for 90 days.
The jeep involved in the collision has been impounded.
