Hurricane Patricia grounds some flights to Mexico

Canadian flights to Southwestern Mexico have been grounded, and some Mexican airports have been closed. So what happens if you’ve booked a trip to Puerto Vallarta? It’s a popular resort destination for thousands of Canadians every year. A lot of people own condos there and now many travelers are being forced to rethink their Mexico vacation plans. Foreign affairs is advising against all travel to that area
Brittany spoke to a local travel agent today who told her fortunately this isn’t a popular time of year for Canadians to travel to Puerto Vallarta, it usually doesn’t pick up until closer to the winter. But Tripcentral.ca says this morning they had their crisis team checking to see how many of its customers are in the area right now. They told Brittany they have 2 people there who’ve booked trips through the agency and they are working on plans to make sure they’re safe and to get them home.
There are a lot of Mexican vacation areas popular with Canadians so we’re going to show you just what popular destinations are directly impacted by hurricane Patricia.
If you or someone you know is traveling to the Mayan Riviera it’s in the clear right now as you can see on this map the Mayan Riviera is on the east side of Mexico and the areas in the path of the hurricane are on the west.
The Mayan Riviera includes Cancun and the popular tourist city Playa del Carmen; Cozumel is also in the area and to be clear the hurricane is not hitting this part of Mexico tonight.
The hurricane is on track to hit Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo which is more than 24 hundred kilometres away from Cancun and the Mayan Riviera.
