Due to deteriorating air quality, the YMCA of Hamilton Burlington Brantford has closed Camp Chippewa at Christie Lake Conservation Area for Thursday.

The city’s Air Quality Health Index remains at 10-plus, indicating a very high risk, on Thursday morning.

“Because Camp Chippewa is a fully outdoor camp with no indoor program space, we determined that closure was the safest course of action for campers and staff,” the camp said.

Only Camp Chippewa and its extended care program are closed. All other YMCA camps and child care centres remain open with modified programming to limit outdoor time.

Families scheduled to attend Camp Chippewa on Thursday will be reimbursed for the missed day.
