Hospitalized Hamilton Bills fan coming home for holidays
Ontario Patient Transfer will bring home the Hamilton man who has been in a coma in a Buffalo hospital – free of charge.
OPT President Rick Van Cleef says “there’s got to be a good news story out there, and we talked with the management team and we said ‘let’s do this’.”
Robert Sitter was hit by a cab November 15th after a Buffalo Bills game. The taxi’s insurance company will pay up to $50,000 toward his $114,000 in medical expenses.
Sitter is now out of a medically-induced coma and is responsive to family. However he cannot talk and he has little control over his body. Still, his sister Samantha Sitter is happy he’s getting out of hospital.
“It’s about time he is coming home. That’s what we have waited for it’s, what we have wanted for Christmas. It’s going to be so much easier for me to go see him now.”
A sentiment echoed by his father, Bob: “I promised everybody I would get him home and I think God permitted he’s going to be here.”
Sitter is expected to arrive at Hamilton General Hospital tomorrow.
The family has set up a trust fund to help cover Sitter’s hospital bills.
