Two arrested after attempting to enter St. Catharines nightclub with handgun

Niagara police have arrested two people after they allegedly attempted to enter a St. Catharines nightclub with a firearm Friday.

While conducting patrols in downtown St. Catharines officers were notified by members of a security team about an incident involving a firearm at a bar on St. Paul Street.

The security guards denied entrance to two people who attempted to enter the bar with a concealed illegal firearm. The pair then fled the scene before security notified police.

Authorities then conducted a search of the area which resulted in the two people being located and arrested.

A 9mm Glock handgun loaded with live ammunition rounds was seized.

As a result, 26-year-old Giovanni Jervis of St. Catharines is charged with the following offences:

• Fail to Comply with Release Order
• Carrying a Concealed Weapon
• Careless Use of a Firearm
• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm
• Possession of Prohibited Ammunition
• Possession of a Loaded Firearm
• Possession of a Firearm Without Holding a License
• Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
• Possession of a Dangerous Weapon

Aireonna Wilson, 20, of St. Catharines is charged with the following:

• Carrying a Concealed Weapon
• Careless Use of a Firearm
• Possession of a Prohibited Firearm
• Possession of Prohibited Ammunition
• Possession of a Loaded Firearm
• Possession of a Firearm Without Holding a License
• Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
• Possession of a Dangerous Weapon
