Henniges plant goes up in smoke

Crews are on the scene of a large fire on Kennedy Street in Welland.

The former Henniges auto plant is fully engulfed in flames. The plant was shut down last year, so at this point we’re not sure what’s inside, or if the building has since been sold.

Henniges produced rubber sealing sytems for the automotive industry.

Roads around the area are blocked off. It’s not known how this blaze started, but Welland has been plagued in the past couple of years by a number of arson fires set in abandoned buildings.
