Head-on collision with school bus injures driver, Lincoln man charged

A man has been charged with dangerous and impaired driving after a head-on collision in Lincoln sent a school bus driver to hospital with minor injuries Monday night.

The crash happened shortly after 6 p.m. on Fly Road near Walker Road. No children were on the school bus at the time of the collision.

Niagara police and emergency services arrived at the scene to discover that a grey Ford Escape SUV had collided head-on with the school bus.

As a result of the impact the bus ended up in the ditch on the north side of Fly Road, and the Escape was in a field on the south side of the road.

The driver of the school bus, a 42-year-old woman from West Lincoln, received minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford, Joseph Fuca, was transported to an out-of-region hospital. His injuries are reported to be nonlife threatening.

Police determined that Fuca, 29, was driving impaired. He was charged at the hospital with dangerous driving and impaired operation of a vehicle and given a court date of Jan. 3 in St. Catharines.

Roads in the vicinity of the accident were re-opened just before midnight.
