Arrest after armed home invasion in Oakville, 2 suspects at large

Halton police arrested one person and are searching for two more suspects after a violent armed home invasion in Oakville on Saturday morning.

Police were called to a residence on Greeneagle Drive near Dorval and Upper Middle Road just before 5 a.m. after three suspects allegedly forced a door open and demanded keys to vehicles parked in the driveway.

According to authorities one of the suspects had a gun and a resident of the home was punched several times.

“I can only imagine the fear that was felt by the victim and his family when three armed men broke into their home…” said HRPS Chief, Stephen Tanner.

One of the suspects who was arrested after a foot chase with police now faces numerous charges. Two others are at large.

Cleveland Vanevery, 23, of Oshweken has been charged with break-and-enter, robbery with a firearm, disguise with intent and other charges

Police report that Vanevery “has been convicted of 25 offences, including Possession of a Firearm, Theft of Vehicle, Break and Enter, Assault with a Weapon, Arson and multiple charges in relation to failing to comply with previous orders in the past”.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

The outstanding suspects are described as a male with a heavy build, wearing black clothes and a black face mask or balaclava, and male with a thin build wearing light-coloured clothing with a black face mask.

The resident of the home was transported to hospital for treatment of a broken nose and has since been released.

Some items were taken from the home, but later recovered abandoned by police. No vehicles were stolen and the handgun was not found.
