The Hamilton non-profit 541 Eatery & Exchange has joined a Canada-wide network of community food centres to combat food insecurity.
The community-focused café on Barton St. East announced Thursday afternoon that it became a member of Community Food Centres Canada’s Good Food Organization program.
This network includes over 400 community food organizations.
A media release from the eatery quotes Executive Director of 541 Justin Eisinga saying, “We are so excited to be a part of the Good Food Organization network.”
“As a local non-profit dedicated to increasing access to community, connection, and good food, 541 Eatery & Exchange will benefit greatly from integration into a network of like-minded organizations who want to see our communities thrive without poverty or hunger.”
The release also reads that in Hamilton Centre 15 per cent of the population lives in poverty, and 24 per cent of people in Ontario experience food insecurity.
