Hamilton police to further target aggressive driving in May
Hamilton police are hoping to shed light and clamp down on aggressive driving in May for its aggressive driving month campaign.
Aggressive driving covers speeding, as well as following too closely behind other cars, not yielding to right-of-way and passing improperly.
Officers say speed is almost always a factor in deadly car collisions. Other major factors include distracted driving and impaired driving.
Last May, Hamilton police issued over 2,700 speeding tickets and eight charges for stunt driving, which is driving 50 kilometres per hour over the speed limit.

Sgt. Dwayne Barnes from the traffic unit says the weather starts to change in May and with increased temperatures usually comes with increased speed.
A car insurance app found that Hamilton is among the worst Ontario cities for road rage or aggressive driving.
It noted more than 2,400 incidents in 2022, leaving Hamilton just behind North York in the rankings.
Sgt. Barnes says the force will continue to target aggressive driving every day of the week as it’s a recurring issue within the city.
