CFIA suspends Mercanti Specialty Foods’ licence, no recalls made
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has suspended a licence held by Hamilton’s Mercanti Specialty Foods Inc.
The CFIA says it pulled the licence because of a lapse in “preventative control measures for the traceability of food products, and with respect to preventative control measures for cooling requirements.”
In an email statement, Mercanti Director JC Campos says the suspension is related to record-keeping processes.

He added there was no food recall because there was no danger to the public and no health complaints were received.
Other Mercanti operations in Hamilton were not impacted by the suspension and not regulated by the CFIA.
Campos says Mercanti is putting together a new food safety program to comply with regulations by the end of the week and the company is looking forward to resuming full operations.
