Hamilton police suspect ‘foul play’ in search for missing woman
Hamilton police are now suspecting foul play in the investigation of the disappearance of 40-year-old Shalini Singh over a month ago.
Singh was reported missing by her family on Dec. 10, 2024, however her last contact with her family was nearly a week before that on Dec. 4.
Police say that the homicide unit is now investigating the disappearance as suspected foul play.
She had spoken with her family over the phone at her apartment in Central Hamilton.
Since then the homicide unit has stepped in to investigate, given the circumstances of how she went missing.
A statement from Det. Sgt. Daryl Reid’s office described Singh’s behaviour “normal” and had not changed up until her disappearance.
“She has been observed on CCTV coming to and from the building on a regular basis and appeared to be in good health,” the statement reads. “After 7:11 p.m. on Dec. 4, 2024, there is no further contact between Singh and friends/family and no further evidence of her movements.”
Hamilton police officer Adam Kimber told CHCH News, “it was very uncharacteristic of Shalini up until Dec. 4, – nothing shows that anything was out of the ordinary for her.”
“That’s is why the homicide unit was enacted,” he said.
Police say that there is no video that has been located that would support Singh leaving the building after Dec. 4.
Investigators say Singh was living with her boyfriend, who has been located and questioned.
Officers say they cannot disclose the status of Singh’s boyfriend, but that he continues to not cooperate with the police investigation, providing no information to assist in locating her or understanding what happened around Dec. 4.
Singh is described as five-foot-four with a light complexion, 120 lbs, brown eyes and shoulder-length hair.
Investigators say they believe Singh does not have access to a vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
