Hamilton police say an arrest has been made in connection with a downtown shooting Friday night.
Investigators say the shooting took place in the area near York Boulevard and Oxford Street.
Police say multiple 9-1-1 calls came in, reporting gunshots outside the apartment building at 40 Oxford Street.
One resident told CHCH News they heard the gunshot at around 10:35 p.m.
“I thought it was a firework, ’cause you know how those fireworks make a lot of noise when they go shooting up,” the resident said, “and then I come out here there’s like six, seven cops here and they’re trying to dig up the grass to look for shell casings.”
Police say they believe it was a targeted incident, but no one was injured.
Officers have arrested 26-year-old Yonis Mohamed from Hamilton, and have charged him with robbery with a firearm, assault with a weapon, and failure to comply with a probation order.
Detectives say the accused remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
Just hours later, while that investigation was still underway, officers were called to a second shooting across the city.
This time, early Saturday morning, on King St. East between Gibson Avenue and Proctor Boulevard, officers found spent shell casings but no victim, and no confirmed target.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, told CHCH News it happened at around 4 a.m. at a parking lot behind Wally’s World Bar and Grill, on the corner of King Street East and Gibson Avenue.
Some residents shared that this was not the first shooting incident in their area.
Detectives from the shooting response team say, at this point, there is no evidence linking the two incidents.
Police are still searching for a second suspect in the shooting near Oxford Street apartment.
