Man charged after crashing stolen U-Haul into police cars, Hamilton home

Hamilton police have arrested a man after he drove a stolen U-Haul truck into police cars and a residence in the city’s downtown early this morning.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. police in the area of Main Street East and Glendale Avenue noticed a U-Haul truck and confirmed that it was stolen.

When patrol officers responded, the driver put the vehicle into motion, nearly striking an officer.

The U-Haul collided with three police cruisers before crashing into a nearby home.

The driver, a 54-year-old man of no fixed address, was taken into custody and arrested.

He was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation of a vehicle, “operation while prohibited” and assaulting a police officer with a weapon.

The investigation is ongoing.
