Police believe Stoney Creek shooting that killed 16-year-old was targeted

A 16-year-old boy has died following what police believe to be a targeted shooting Thursday morning in Stoney Creek.

The teen was taken to hospital in critical condition. He later died.

Hamilton police say the homicide unit has taken over the investigation.

“Given the age and the circumstances of the victim, that’s why the homicide unit has been deployed and the shooting response team,” Adam Kimber with Hamilton Police said.

According to investigators, multiple vehicles were involved in the shooting.

Two of those vehicles remained at the scene. Police say both vehicles had been reported stolen.

Officers say the 16-year-old was travelling on Highway 8 in a red Acura, and was chased by multiple vehicles for several blocks before colliding with a white Kia.

In a press conference, Hamilton police revealed multiple people shot at the Acura following the crash and left the 16-year-old injured in the driver’s seat.

Investigators are looking for “at least three” other vehicles they believe are involved.

Highway 8 was closed between Fruitland Road and Jones Road for the investigation Thursday morning, but has since reopened.
