Hamilton Major Crime Unit takes over missing woman case

Hamilton Police are repeating a call for information about a woman who has been missing since last July. Major crime Detectives have taken over the case of Monica Chisar.

The 29-year-old has been missing for more than eight months. Her sister Amanda Chizar started getting worried near the end of last summer.

“She liked to venture off quite a bit so we weren’t concerned right away. She’d go missing a couple of weeks, a couple of months. But she’d always be in touch by social media, or someone would reach out and say she’s with me she’s ok. But nothing like this.” says Amanda.

She continued, “Couple weeks went by and I didn’t see anything on Facebook, I didn’t get a phone call, nobody heard from her. Her friends started reaching out to me.”

Hamilton Police first went public with Monica’s disappearance in November, and repeated the call for information Friday morning.

More than 1500 people are reported missing every year in Hamilton.

Hamilton Police Staff Sgt. Dave Oleniuk says, “The usual cycle is they’re reported missing by concerned family and within a few days they’re found safe. So we wanted to reintroduce Monica to the general public, to let everybody know that she is still missing. And it is quite concerning.”

Chisar was last seen July 11, 2018. A friend dropped her off at the Beer Store at Barton and Parkdale, with the expectation she was going to be spending the night at one of the apartments on Melvin avenue.

On Melvin there are several high-rise apartment buildings so Hamilton Police were unable to determine which one was her destination.

Chizar changes her appearance often. She had only been in Hamilton a few months and may have had a job lined up. She is known to use illicit drugs.

“She wanted to turn over a new leaf. She has a son in Mexico and wanted to be more part of his life. They haven’t heard from her either.” says Amanda.

Her sister says Monica’s last social media post was July 6, days before she was last seen by the family friend who dropped her off.
