Hamilton homeowners have a little more time to file their Vacant Unit Tax (VUT) declarations as the city has extended the deadline until May 15.
City staff said in a statement that around 92 per cent of homeowners have submitted their required 2025 declarations.
All residential property owners need to submit a declaration, even if the property is their primary residence and is occupied.
This would include homeowners living in their own home, and those who own secondary or rental properties.
If a property is declared vacant, it is subject to a 1 per cent tax based on the property’s total assessed value.
To complete a declaration, homeowners will need their roll number and access code, which can be found on their VUT notice to declare, reminder to declare letters, or their most recent 2026 property tax bill.
Declarations can be submitted online, by phone, email, mail and in-person at all municipal service centres across the city.
