Grandad’s Donuts in Hamilton is expected to reopen Tuesday morning after it was forced to temporarily shut down due to a fryer breakdown Sunday night.

The iconic, family-run bakery on James Street North says it will be able to reopen thanks to GEM Electric.

“Our new fryer is hooked up and ready to go!” staff wrote in a post on Facebook.

“Thank you all for being so patient with us while we worked through this unexpected setback.”

Grandad’s Donuts is planning to open its doors again at 7 a.m. Tuesday for coffee. However, fresh donuts won’t be ready until a little later at around 9 a.m.

“We have a few things left to do to get the kitchen ready, including moving out our old fryer and running a test batch through our new beauty before we start serving,” the post continues.

It says the brief closure comes after a record-breaking weekend for the donut shop.

“While this definitely isn’t the post we wanted to make, we’re grateful it happened after National Donut Day and after such an incredible weekend. The support you showed us was absolutely amazing and we can’t thank you enough,” the business writes in a separate post.
