McMaster University engineering students pull together for local charities

McMaster University engineering students pulled together for a great cause Friday: a charity bus pull.

Hundreds of students, many of whom wore red suits, gathered at Bayfront Park to celebrate the end of welcome week and the beginning of the academic term.

This time-honoured tradition builds camaraderie, while raising money for local charities.

“I think that these events are great to show that there’s a lot more just beyond the coursework of university,” said Tyler Wortley, a McMaster University Welcome Week committee member. “It’s great to show the community, the people that represent the community and the diverse set of backgrounds.”

“We think it’s really great and it’s awesome to get the Hamilton community out and be a part of it as well,” said Ainsley Brown, a McMaster University Welcome Week committee member. “We love community work, we love interacting with the community, and I think it’s just a really great way to end off the week.”

The annual event has supported a variety of local charities since 1990.

The money raised Friday will go to the Neighbour to Neighbour Centre, which provides emergency food, along with educational and family support to people in Hamilton.
