Golf courses around Hamilton prepare ‘fore’ opening day

The golf season has officially begun — with two of three municipal courses now open for business.

One of two of the Chedoke Golf Club’s courses opened on Friday. The Beddoe is set to open next Friday.

“We have a golf course for everybody. The Martin course is the one for a beginner golfer, it’s a little bit more wide open,” says Mark Arnette, the supervisor of golf services with the City of Hamilton. “Beddoe is a tighter golf course for the more established player and King Forest is a championship course.”

We did see some rain the past few days but that’s not much of an issue for golf lovers though there won’t be any carts this weekend.

“There will not be any power carts today because of the rain. Most people have been notified and know that,” says Arnette. “We’re hoping to reassess by Monday to see if we can get carts going next week, depending on how much rain we get this weekend.”

“It’s really special to see everyone after the long winter. A lot of times we don’t keep in contact during the off-season,” says Neil who has been a member since 1970 and is excited to hit the green at 8:05 a.m.

For now golfers can book their tee times by calling the courses directly as the city says its ironing out a few kinks on its new online booking portal, which will be live on the city’s website in a few weeks.

That’s also where the full pricing list and the dress code can be found, if you plan to hit the fairway this season.
