GoFundMe for Humboldt Broncos closes with over $15M donated

The GoFundMe campaign dedicated to the Humboldt Broncos stopped taking donations at midnight Wednesday with a final total of $15,185,700.
“Funds for Humboldt Broncos” was started by a Humboldt, Saskatchewan resident after the tragic bus crash on April 6 which killed 16 players and staff and injured 13 others.
The money from the fund will be transferred to a newly created non-profit corporation known as “Humboldt Broncos Memorial Fund Inc.”
Team president Kevin Garinger said earlier this week the funds will in part be used to pay the expenses of the victims’ families.
According to the GoFundMe page, an advisory committee is being established to make a recommendation for the allocation of the funds, which will be held in trust until that allocation happens
Even though the campaign will no longer be accepting donations, Garinger says the page will remain live so the organization can continue to provide updates on the progress of allocating the funds.
“The Broncos have been humbled, and our spirits buoyed, by the staggering number of individuals and groups wanting to make donations or holding fundraisers to support our organization outside of our GoFundMe, as we deal with this unprecedented crisis,” said Garinger in a post on the GoFundMe page.
