Global Affairs confirms death of Canadian-Israeli peace activist

A Canadian-Israeli peace activist who was believed to have been taken hostage in the Oct. 7 Hamas attack has been confirmed killed in Israel.

Global Affairs Canada says Israeli authorities have formally identified the remains of 74-year-old Vivian Silver.

Silver’s son Chen Zeigen says authorities told him her remains had been found in her home five weeks earlier, but were only identified now.

Zeigen says Silver was born in Winnipeg and dedicated her life to peace-building and fostering understanding between Israelis and Palestinians after moving to the region in 1974.

Global Affairs has previously confirmed the death of six Canadian citizens during the Oct. 7 attack on Israel which killed at least 1,200 people.
