Ford’s Canadian union workers cast vote on new contract

Canadian workers represented by Unifor at Ford Motor company will cast their vote this weekend on a tentative contract they reached with the company, Tuesday.

Ford was the last of the Detroit three to come to the table to reach an agreement with Unifor, which also represents employees at G-M and Fiat-Chrysler.

Reports say Unifor President Jerry Dias said the agreement included a large investment for Canadian-made Ford products and is based on deals reached with the other two auto makers.

Unifor represents more than 67-hundred workers in Ford facilities including Edmonton, Windsor, Oakville and Bramalea.

If workers decide to reject the contract, they’d immediately be in a strike position putting a stop on production at the Oakville and Windsor plants.

However, Dias has said he expects the deal to be approved.
