First Triple Crown in 37 years

For the first time since 1978, a horse takes home the Triple Crown. American Pharoah led all the way to win the Belmont Stakes by 5 1/2 lengths on Saturday, becoming the first horse in 37 years to win the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont. The bay colt defeated seven rivals in the one and a half mile race to end the longest stretch without a Triple Crown champion in history. American Pharoah is the twelfth horse to win three races on three different tracks over a five week span. He won the Kentucky Derby by one length on May 2 and then destroyed the Preakness two weeks later with a seven length victory. Frosted finished second and Keen Ice finished third.
