Election campaigns on Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day turned out to be a somewhat embarrassing day for the Progressive Conservatives in the Ontario Election campaign.

Hudak was planning a ride on the TTC in Toronto to talk about transportation, but that didn’t go as planned. Hudak led his campaign team and media onto a TTC subway car when the TTC’s transit police stepped in.

The TTC said the Tory campaign hadn’t asked for permission to campaign on the subway or cleared it in advance.

With Hudak maintaining a smile in the background, he even had to be called off.

Hudak had planned to hold a news conference on the TTC to talk about his plan to expand go transit, build a new Toronto subway and have the province take partial control of Toronto transit.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath was campaigning at home in Hamilton, promising to make life easier for mothers and their families by pumping 100 million dollars into child care.

she says over a dozen child care centers have had to close under the liberal government’s funding formula.

“We have a system that’s starting to fall apart,” Horwath said “we have communities that are losing their child care centers.”

Meanwhile, Premier Kathleen Wynne was at a Mother’s Day walk in Mississauga, saying if the NDP was really worried about child care they should have supported the budget and avoided an election.

“We have been investing in child care and in fact in our budget was more support for child care workers,” the Premiers said “we had proposed that we would actually increase the wages of child care workers.”

Ontario will head to the voting poles on June 12th.
