Hamilton has its first confirmed outbreak of COVID-19 associated with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board.
The affected school is Shannen Koostachin Elementary School, near Rymal Rd. E and Fletcher Rd.
It’s the second outbreak at a Hamilton school and comes just hours after the city declared its first outbreak at a local school.
According to the HWDSB website, there are two confirmed cases in staff members.
An outbreak is defined as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or staff within 14 days.
It requires at least one case to have reasonably acquired their infection in the school.
The school board says it’s working with public health officials to facilitate case and contact tracing.
