Ontario Provincial Police say a woman is dead after a head-on collision on Highway 5, just east of Highway 8, in Flamborough Tuesday morning.

At approximately 7:06 a.m., officers responded to reports of a collision involving two vehicles on Highway 5.

Investigators say a pickup truck operated by a 20-year-old man from Millgrove, Ont. was travelling westbound when it collided with a minivan that was travelling eastbound.

The minivan was driven by a 35-year-old man, carrying a 32-year-old woman in the front passenger seat. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Their two-year-old son was sitting in the backseat of the minivan and was transported to a local children’s hospital with critical injuries. All three people in the minivan were from Cambridge, Ont.

Both drivers were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

“We don’t want to speculate at this point, but at some point the two vehicles collided head-on. And we’ll be looking at, you know, information from the vehicles, from witnesses, from the drivers,” said Constable Rob Tihor. “If anybody observed the collision, [or] they have dashcam footage, we want them to call the Burlington OPP.”

The closure between the roundabout at Peter’s Corners and Middletown Road lasted for hours while the OPP’s traffic support unit was on scene. The roadway has since reopened.

Const. Tihor said no names have been released, but charges are pending and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone who stopped to assist at the scene or may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact police at 1-888-310-1122.

Those wishing to provide information anonymously can do so through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via their website.
