COVID-19 Outbreak declared at Hamilton’s Wentworth Lodge

Hamilton Public Health Services that a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 at the Wentworth Lodge long-term care facility in Dundas. As a result, public health is declaring an outbreak at the home.

The staff member became symptomatic, was subsequently tested, and the test results confirmed yesterday that they were positive. Public health is currently investigating and contacting any residents and staff who may have come in contact with the staff member. All symptomatic residents and staff members will also be tested.

“Resident and staff safety are uniquely linked,” Holly Odoardi, Senior Administrator of Macassa and Wentworth Lodges said. ” We have taken, and will continue to take, every possible precautionary measure to prevent the spread of this virus, including: active screening, enhanced cleaning, and isolation of residents as soon as symptoms are identified. Our priority remains keeping residents, staff and the community as healthy and safe as possible.”

An outbreak is declared by Public Health anytime there is a single confirmed case of COVID-19 amongst residents or staff of a long-term care facility.
