Conservative leader plans non-confidence motion when parliament resumes

It’s been one week since NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh ditched a supply-and-confidence agreement with the minority liberal government and now the official opposition is pushing the issue.

On Wednesday, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said he will be aiming to hold an election as soon as possible.

Poilievre says his party will put forward a non-confidence motion when parliament resumes, with the goal of triggering an early federal election.

Speaking at a press conference on parliament hill, the Conservative leader called on both the NDP and Bloc Québécois to support the motion.

The call comes on the heels of the NDP pulling out of a deal with the Liberals that supported the minority government on non-confidence votes in exchange for progress of shared priorities.

The NDP now says it will do that on a case-by-case basis. At the end of August, Poilievre urged Singh to pull out of the agreement with the Liberals and force an election this Fall.

However, Singh says he will not be taking advice from Poilievre.
