Conservative leader Erin O’Toole to face leadership review
Conservative leader Erin O’Toole says he’s “not going anywhere” as he prepares to face a leadership review brought on by his party.
According to The Canadian Press, O’Toole was informed Monday night by caucus chair Scott Reid that at least 20 per cent of Tory MPs have submitted a letter to hold a leadership review.
Alberta MP Garnett Genuis tweeted he is part of the one-third of members who want O’Toole gone.
O’Toole responded to news of the review on Twitter and said he is committed to keeping the party on track.
“There are two roads open to the Conservative Party of Canada. One is the road of Randy Hillier and Derek Sloan. It is angry, negative, and extreme. It is a dead-end; one that would see the party of Confederation become the NDP of the right,” said O’Toole. “The other road is to better reflect the Canada of 2022. To recognize that conservatism is organic not static and that a winning message is one of inclusion, optimism, ideas and hope.”
O’Toole said he is “not going anywhere” and “not turning back.”

“Canada needs us to be united and serious! It’s time for a reckoning. To settle this in caucus. Right here. Right now. Once and for all. Anger vs. Optimism. That is the choice in simple terms,” he added.
O’Toole said he would accept the results of the vote and those who signed the letter asking for a review will have to do the same.
Following last year’s election, the Conservative caucus gave itself the power to vote on O’Toole’s leadership.
The caucus is set to meet on Wednesday.
