City of Hamilton makes preparations ahead of winter snowfall
As some Ontario communities are still digging out after a severe storm, the City of Hamilton says they are doing what they can to prepare for the next heavy snowfall.
City staff says whenever show hits, they make sure they have enough equipment ready to go to clear what they can.
Environment Canada has issued a series of weather alerts for regions along Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, with some locations expecting to see close to 30 centimetres of snow by Wednesday evening.
The City of Hamilton staff says they monitor the weather “24-7” and while much of lower Ontario will be getting “typical snow”, they say it’s nothing they’re not used to dealing with.
Manager of Road Way Maintenance with the City of Hamilton Peter Sniuolis told CHCH News that they are ready.
Heavy snowfall affecting northern Ontario, Highway 11
Ontario Provincial Police extended a closure of Highway 11, with crews actively working to clear snow on the closed secondary roads off the highway.
Officers say they are also preparing for more snowfall in the Town of Huntsville.
There are currently nine tractor trailers that remain stuck on secondary roads, which are causing a delay in snow removal and hydro restoration efforts.
OPP is reminding the public to slow down, stay alert, and stay in control as the weather changes.
