John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport was the stage of an epic showdown on Saturday.

Team Rick Zamperin vs. Team Annette Hamm.

“Team Annette is going down, they don’t know what’s coming for them,” says Zamperin.

“We’ve had a friendly rivalry for the past few weeks,” Hamm says.

Rick and Annette have been training tirelessly for the big day.

“Strategy to pull this plane as hard as humanely possible. My wife has already advised me to not come home with any strained muscles, I’m just gonna go all out,” Zamperin says.

Annette on the other hand was a little more tight lipped about her strategy.

“It’s top secret, I don’t want team Rick knowing,” says Hamm.

Although winning is sweet, it’s not everything.

The plane pull event is a fundraiser for the United Way of Halton and Hamilton.

“That means over 120 different programs are being supported across different areas like housing security, food security, mental health support, children and youth programs and so many other programs,” says Kristen Jacob from United Way Halton and Hamilton.

Team Rick and Team Annette raised over $10,000 combined and the united way also has support from over 90 other teams.

“It’s bigger, better than ever,” says Jacob.

Now you’re probably wondering who won…

First was Team Rick, who had a little trouble.

“Well we went to pull the plane and it didn’t move, Annette had a really suspicious look on her face I don’t know, just saying,”

Turns out the plane had been sitting for a while and the wheels needed to get loose.

In the end, it looks like Team Rick tired themselves out when the plane wasn’t moving, Team Annette took the W.

“Oh it went better than expected,” says Hamm.

“Terrible terrible,” says Zamperin.

“But we all pulled for the united way and that’s the important part,” says Hamm.

“It was a lot of fun, we raised a lot of money, that is the most important part. We did have a friendly competition, but it was a lot of fun,” says Zamperin.

“But I won,” Hamm clarifies.
