Hamilton police have laid multiple provincial charges against an east end bar in relation to ongoing disorder in the surrounding neighbourhood.

This comes in response to ongoing community concerns and a series of incidents requiring repeated police response in the area.

Authorities say the neighbourhood has been the subject of multiple police investigations, including a shooting in August of last year and a second shooting on April 18 of this year.

Wally’s World Bar & Grill on King Street East was the focus of the investigation.

Residents and community members reported late-night disturbances, suspected after-hours alcohol service, disorder and safety concerns affecting the surrounding neighbourhood.

During the investigation, detectives became aware of alleged violations of liquor license regulations and launched a separate investigation.

On May 15 at approximately 4 a.m., officers attended Wally’s World Bar & Grill to conduct a liquor license inspection.

As a result, charges have been laid against Wally’s World Bar & Grill, the person identified as the liquor licence holder, and another person identified as a bartender and owner of the corporation.

Those charges include:

  • The sale and service of alcohol outside permitted hours
  • Failure to comply with liquor licence conditions
  • Permitting intoxication and disorderly conduct
  • Smoking and cannabis use inside the establishment
  • Failure to maintain proper control of the premises
  • Obstructing police in the lawful execution of their duties

Hamilton police are encouraging members of the community to continue reporting concerns that impact their community.

Those wishing to provide information anonymously can do so through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via their website.
