Carney pauses EV plan as sales fall far short of targets

The future may be uncertain for the federal government’s plan to force manufacturers to make electric-only vehicles in Canada by 2035.

On Friday, Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that he’s putting off one of the steps in the so-called EV mandate. He’s pausing plans to require that 20 per cent of light-duty vehicle sales be electric by next year — and he’s reviewing the overall EV mandate.

Political Commentator Keith Leslie says the moves comes since the sales figures are nowhere near meeting the target that the government mandated.
