There is a sense of unease in a quiet Burlington neighbourhood where a man arrested after exposing himself to two young girls in a park, has been released with a promise to appear in court.

Halton Regional Police say just before 5:30 p.m Tuesday, two girls aged 11 and 12 were walking a dog in Ireland Park when they noticed a man watching them.

The man allegedly followed them when they began to walk to another area in the park.  Soon they turned around, and saw him standing nearby with his pants down, fully exposing his genitals.

52-year old Douglas Scarborough of Headon Road in Burlington has been charged with indecent exposure to a child less than 16 years of age

CHCH’s Melissa Raftis spoke with one person who says they’re Scarborough’s relative. They told us, they’re not surprised. He’s been released from custody on a promise to appear, a move that has parents and other residents concerned for the safety of neighbourhood children.

Police weren’t able to say exactly where the incident took place. Ireland Park is fairly large with a high school and an elementary school backing onto it.

Scarborough will appear in Milton court next on September 24th.
