National Steel Car is holding a job fair this weekend to help fill roughly 300 full-time positions.

They’re looking for trades workers such as welders, crane operators, painters, general workers and IT positions.

If you have no background in welding, that’s not a problem. Employment manager John Durlov says National Steel is providing a two-week certified welding course.

“It is a hard field to fill traditionally in the past and not to many people are going forward with skilled trades and we are trying to encourage that here in Hamilton, try to make skill trades a focus here.”

“We don’t have enough skilled trades. We are providing training for 150-200 people for welding in particular. ”

For over a hundred years, National Steel Car has been designing and building freight equipment. Durlov says the fair will help give Hamilton’s economy a boost.

The job fair takes place this Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm at 602 Kenilworth Avenue North in Hamilton.
