Brantford police are asking for the public’s help identifying two men after a car chase early Tuesday morning ended with a car crashing into a house.
On Jan. 18 at approximately 2:15 a.m., authorities conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Brant Avenue and Dalhousie Street.
The vehicle, occupied by four men, was stopped for travelling well below the speed limit. The officers involved were attempting to confirm if the driver was sober.
During the traffic stop, the driver began to flee at a high rate of speed, subsequently running a red light.
Police did not pursue the vehicle out of concern for public safety.
At 2:20 a.m., the vehicle collided into a residence at the intersection of Brant Avenue and St. Paul Avenue. Investigators say the residence sustained minor damage. A utility box and street sign were also damaged.

Upon arriving on scene, detectives found the driver and two of the vehicle’s occupants had fled on foot. One man who was sitting in the driver’s seat at the time was taken into custody – officers confirmed this was not the driver.
As a result, a 19-year-old from Mississauga stands charged with one count of “Obstruct Peace Officer.”
With the help of a K-9 unit, one of the men fleeing on foot was found nearby.
The man driving and another male passenger are still outstanding.
