Brant County mayor opposes amalgamation with Brantford

The mayor of the County of Brant says he is “unequivocally opposed” to amalgamation with the City of Brantford.
This comes after Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis announced earlier this week that he will use strong-mayor powers to study the potential financial benefits of amalgamation. While the city and county already share some services, such as paramedics and the healthcare system, Davis believes there is potential to expand these shared services and improve others.
County of Brant Mayor David Bailey declined an interview with CHCH News and provided a statement, which in part reads: “I am tired of the continual attempts by Mayor Davis to bully the county into bending to his will. Just because we have refused a request does not mean they can take it.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Davis insists the study is intended to help both municipalities become better informed. He says the study could take around six months to complete if approved.
