Brampton man arrested in nation-wide fraud investigation: police

Police have arrested a man from Brampton in connection with a nation-wide fraud investigation.

Officers from Peel Region and other parts of Canada say the suspect allegedly contacted the victims and told them they had won millions in the lottery and were required to pay the taxes for their winnings to be released.

Police also say the victims were instructed to send their payments to the suspect.

Fraud investigators with Peel police carried out a search warrant which resulted in the arrest of 60-year-old Clive Lothian of Brampton.

Lothian is facing charges for fraud over $5,000, possession of proceeds of crime and defrauding the public.

He was released with a scheduled court date on Oct. 16 to answer the charges.

Officers from Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Timmins, Ont. and Thunder Bay, Ont. also helped with this investigation.
