City of Burlington is encouraging residents to sign up for Alert Burlington, a free emergency notification system.

The city’s website says the purpose of Alert Burlington is to keep people informed about local emergencies like floods, gas leaks and accidents that could put them or their property at risk.

The emergency notification system will send important messages through text, email or phone calls.

It will also give instructions on whether you should leave your location or stay put.

Burlington Fire Chief Karen Roche says time is of the essence when responding to emergency situations.

“Alert Burlington is a tool that helps us connect with subscribers quickly to ensure they have access to real-time information in an emergency,” Roche says.
