Ontario to invest $100K to help abuse victims in Hamilton

The Ontario government is investing $100,000 to support victims and survivors of intimate partner violence, domestic violence, human trafficking and child exploitation in Hamilton.

The funding will be given to the Hamilton Police Service who will work with organizations in the city, such as House of Hamilton and Banyan Community Services.

They will work to provide counselling, legal advocacy, housing support, access to food and access to clothing.

Ontario’s Solicitor General Michael Kerzner says support for victims and survivors is a crucial first step to recovery.

“This important grant is part of our government’s plan to combat violent crime
on our streets and ensure that victims are not left behind,” Kerzner says.

Hamilton Police Chief Frank Bergen says this grant goes beyond addressing intimate partner violence and human trafficking.

“We’re providing immediate access to essential support, ensuring victims and survivors are not alone in their journey to safety and recovery,” Bergen says.

This money is part of $4 million in government funding to be distributed across the province.
