As Uber continues to target the traditional taxi industry, cab companies are fighting back with apps of their own.
Blue Line Taxi in Hamilton has just launched its own app that claims to be better than Uber because it’s licenced and legal. The new app allows customers to request a cab with the tap of a finger.
“It’s an easier way than picking up the phone and calling.” said Anthony Rizzutto from Blue Line Taxi.
The app, which took over a year to develop, allows customers to book a cab with their smartphone, see how far away the cab is and track its arrival. You can search the cost of a fare and book a ride up to a month in advance.
Once a request is booked, the rider is sent the drivers name and car number along with a confirmation email.
Blue Line says their app is state of the art and offers even more than Uber.
“You can pick any vehicle. You can pick a van, no van or an accessible taxi. It also gives you 4 forms of payment, either credit card, cash debit card or on a charge account.”
Less than a week old, the app appears to be gaining fans.
Blue Line says it had been working on developing their app long before Uber made inroads into the city.
It also says despite the similarities in the 2 products, there are more important differences, blue line is insured, licenced and legal.
