‘Astronomy is for everybody’: Hamilton woman losing vision gets to stargaze
One woman who has nearly lost all her vision is being granted one last wish.
Jannice Dacosta reached out to astronomer and host of CHCH’s The Night Sky, Mario Carr, with a special request to see the stars.
“I have retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease I inherited from my father,” Dacosta said. She has five per cent of her vision remaining.
She says everyone with this disease has a different timeline for complete vision loss. For her, Dacosta says it could be any day now.
“We’re planning to go out Saturday night and see the moon, look at Jupiter, look at Venus, some of the bright objects in the sky,” Carr said.
“Astronomy is for everybody. It’s not just for people with able eyes.”
