Two men have been charged with break and enter and theft offences after stealing parking meters and licence plates from Niagara Falls and St. Catharines.

Niagara police officers were made aware of two suspicious men cutting up parking meters in Cooks Mills yesterday, just east of Welland. District 3 Welland police officers tracked down the duo who were found to have stolen tools on them.

Welland-based street crime detectives took over the case and discovered that the men were also responsible for a Feb. 8 break-and-enter in the city in which construction tools valued at more than $30,000 were stolen.

Also found in their possession were stolen parking meters from Niagara Falls and licence plates stolen from cars in St. Catharines.

Jamie Roversi, 43, of Niagara Falls and Shane Cowell, 37, of Welland have been charged with break-and-enter to commit theft and stolen property offences.

Both men were released from custody and are awaiting a court date.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the police at 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009215.
