18 candidates running for vacant Hamilton City Council Ward 8 position

Candidates have two more weeks to register to run for a Hamilton City Council Byelection for Ward 8 as 18 people have already entered the race.
They now include Anthony Frisina – a community advocate known for his accessibility work.
Another familiar name is Scott Duvall, who was a Ward 7 Hamilton Councillor from 2006 until 2015, and then served six years as Hamilton Mountain’s Member of Parliament.
Last month councilors voted to hold a by-election to fill John-Paul Danko’s seat after he was elected as a Liberal MP.
Nominees must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old and reside in — or be the owner or tenant of — land in Hamilton or the spouse of such owner or tenant.
They must also not be prohibited from voting and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
Eligible candidates interested in filing their nomination for the vacant position can book an appointment with the elections department at 905-546-4408 or elections@hamilton.ca. Nominations will be accepted until Aug. 8 at 2 p.m. and a full list of candidates will be posted online on Aug. 12.
Nominations will be accepted until 2 p.m. on Aug. 8, and the by-election will be held Sept. 22, with advance polls on Sept. 20 and 21.
